WRAP Principles - Certification Program Principles
WRAP is an independent, non-profit organizsation dedicated to the certification of lawful, humane and ethical manufacturing throughout the world. The aim of the WRAP initiative is to provide a framework for a 5-Step certification system (1. Application, 2. Self-Assessment, 3. Monitoring, 4. Evaluation, 5.Certification) for responsible textile production centres.
The objective of the Apparel Certification Program is to independently monitor and certify compliance with 12 principles centred on work, anti-corruption, forgery and environmental standards.
- Compliance with Laws and Workplace Regulations
- Prohibition of Forced Labour
- Prohibition of Child Labour
- Prohibition of Harassment or Abuse
- Compensation and Benefits
- Working hours
- Prohibition of Discrimination
- Health and Safety
- Freedom of Association & Collective Bargaining
- Environment
- Customs Compliance
- Security
Note that it is not enough to subscribe to these principles; WRAP monitors the factory for compliance with detailed practices and procedures implied by adherence to these standards. Auditing and certification is conducted by an independent monitor from a list of monitoring companies and civil society organisations that regularly perform audits for compliance with policies and procedures required by WRAP.
