ISO 26000 Guidelines for social responsibility

IISO 26000 does not exist yet. This future standard will be international guidelines for social responsibility (SR). ISO 26000 will provide all types of organisations with harmonised directives on what is social responsibility and how to implement it in an organisation. It will not be a management system and will not be for certification.

It is being written by a group of about 300 experts representing industry, trade unions, NGOs, consumers, governments, standardisation bodies, consultants and searchers, to ensure stakeholder representativity from developed and developing countries.
ISO 26000 is the first attempt at international level to compile conceptions of social responsibility from all over the world and to decline its application for all types of organisations, everywhere. It covers virtually all areas of ethics, values, principles, sustainability, governance, environmental, consumption, procurement policies, etc.
Supply practices are declined in their social and environmental aspects, both from a producer and a consumer perspective.
ISO 26000 will not replace other existing standards, codes of conduct, conventions or legislation. It will mention good practices and direct readers to further sources of information.
Its publication is expected for 2010, but all draft versions and working documents are freely available online.I

Remarks

ISO 26000 opens the field of social responsibility to non-corporate actors. The balance in participation between the six categories of stakeholders and the developed and developing countries is the biggest concern of the ISO. The elaboration process is freely open and all working documents are available online.
